Why does it matter?

I got an amusing post on my new VA's forum this evening; it said that the airlines livery was "a bit too close to American's". I had to sit back for a few minutes and think..."did this guy even READ the webpage?" "OF COURSE IT LOOKS LIKE AMERICAN'S YOU TWIT!!!" But he felt soooo compelled that he had to post about it on my forum…anonymously. What was he sacred of? Why couldn’t he leave his name? I’m not going to hunt him down, and make him fly for me at gunpoint. He expressed an opinion and then, as Dr. Phil would say, he didn’t want to “own” it. I did, however trace his IP and flagged it, just in case he does come back and introduce himself. I’m just that kind of guy.

But really, what does it matter that we “look” like American Airlines? Is looking like Jennifer Aniston a bad thing? Or looking like Brad Pitt? No, we’re not American (virtual) Airlines, but we’re not blatantly ripping them off either, like so many other “real-world” virtual airlines do. I even stated on my opening statements on my webpage…I KNOW WE’RE SIMILAR! Did that matter? Nope…we’re just too close. Look, if you don’t like my VA, that’s cool. I actually have two; maybe my other one is your style. Or maybe someone else’s is. If you read the AVSIM boards, VA’s advertise to open on the average of four a week. That’s just the one’s that tell us they’re opening on AVSIM, then there’s Surclaro.com, and vaflash.com, and so many other .coms that they can make you .crazy. Put them all together and it’s staggering; 20-25 virtual airlines a week. How many make it past that first week? Less than 20%. But what does that matter, if you don’t like X’s VA, then there’s Y’s VA…or Z’s.

People then to forget, this is a hobby. While a certain degree of realism is fun for everyone, it’s still a hobby. People get pissed off that their stock loses value and they bitch to Bruce. Bruce don’t set the values, the traders do. People get MAD that they lose virtual money. Let me say that again…it’s virtual money. V-i-r-t-u-a-l m-o-n-e-y. It does not exist away from the VASX. You cannot take it to Wal-Mart and buy Bionce’s latest CD, or buy a Big Mac with it. It does not matter, it’s simply bytes on a server somewhere. Someone got mad because the rules changed for upper level traders…it costs what, $2 a month to be a gold trader? Christ, spend another $2 a month and go Platinum, you prolly blow that on a trip to Starbucks for a latte. Just quit complaining, because in the end it’s not going to matter.

Now, if you'll pardon me, I have to entertain myself.
